Missouri City's Planning Department is comprised of three divisions:

Missouri City’s vision for the future, the Comprehensive Plan, was adopted by City Council on Sept. 21, 2009. Residents’ input influenced the design of the Plan, which provides a guide to growth and development. Planning experts will review and update the plan every five years. The Planning Department of the City of Missouri City is charged with:

Planning & Zoning - Planning is a process that results in the adoption of a Comprehensive Plan which considers and responds to future problems and opportunities in various areas of City life. For example, Vision 2020, the Comprehensive Plan of the City of Missouri City, created goals, policies and strategies concerning land use, urban design, drainage, transportation, utilities, parks, etc. Zoning is a way that Missouri City implements its Comprehensive Plan. It divides the City into various use districts (residential, commercial, industrial, etc.) and provides standards for landscaping, parking, signs, setbacks, etc. for private constructions..
Code Enforcement, Community Development Block Grant and Health - Provides regular inspections of structures and properties to maintain property values and investigates code violation complaints (high grass, junk vehicles, rubbish, etc.).Responsible for administering the Community Development Block Grant funds that the City receives from HUD. Community Development provides various programs to assist families with low to moderate income achieve better housing and living conditions.
Permits & Inspections - Provides a means for reviewing and approving plans to assure compliance with minimum standards for building construction
